What Is a Statement of Commitment?
A statement of commitment is a formal, public promise that sets out how an organisation protects children from harm and puts their safety and wellbeing first. It reflects the National Child Safe Principles and the Child Safe Standards, and guides the everyday behaviour of everyone who works with, or visits, The Discovery House – from educators and volunteers to families and guests. Below is our statement in full.
At The Discovery House (TDH), the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of children is embedded in our culture, leadership and everyday practice. Every child has the right to feel safe, be safe and have their voice heard.
We have zero tolerance for child abuse, neglect or harm. We implement the National Child Safe Principles and uphold the 10 Child Safe Standards, ensuring child safety remains central to all decisions and practices across our service.
Child safety is everyone's responsibility. Clear expectations guide the behaviour of educators, volunteers, families and visitors, and professional boundaries are consistently maintained to protect children and uphold a strong child-safe culture.
We empower children to understand their rights and actively participate in decisions that affect them. Through trusting and respectful relationships, children are supported to express their thoughts and concerns, and to know who they can approach if they feel unsafe.
We are committed to culturally safe and inclusive practices for all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with disability. We value diversity and promote a safe, inclusive environment where every child feels respected and a true sense of belonging.
At TDH, child safety is a shared and lived commitment, strengthened through ongoing reflection, collaboration and continuous improvement.
