Our Curriculum.

At The Discovery House we provide a strong comprehensive Preschool Program that prepares all children with the confidence and abilities to successfully transition to Primary School.

Children looking at nature

We take a holistic approach to Early Learning and every step of your child’s growth and development.

Here at The Discovery House, we pride ourselves on our unique approach to early learning education, with a program that is created with and for all children within our care. Our sector-leading educators, well-resourced environments and key learning areas, view each child as an individual, with individual needs, interests and skills.

Our programs are underpinned by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and The National Quality Framework (NQF), which provided principles, practices and outcomes to aim towards within our learning environment.

Through strong collaboration with families and the local community, our program reflects the needs of our families, focusing on feedback, developing knowledge and community involvement.

Within our daily routine, children have many opportunities to engage in play-based learning in a safe and nurturing environment. This allows them to take risks within their play, problem solve, develop their resilience and explore their many interests. Educators embed Intentional Teaching within our program that assist in extending and developing all children within their knowledge and skill set.

Our educators have built strong and long-lasting relationships with our families and this allows for open communication to be shared. These relationships allow educators to learn lots of important information about the children within the centre to ensure our programs foster the knowledge families share, along with the information educators gather through their observations of the child.

Individualised Programs

Each child at The Discovery House has an individual learning plan that is documented and shared with each family via StoryPark. Goals are established for each child that are set inline with the EYLF, Developmental Milestones and in collaboration with their family. We aim to work in partnership with families to achieve these goals and ensure that each child has the social, emotional and academic abilities to commence primary school confident and ready.

Munch & Move

Munch & Move is a NSW Health initiative that supports the healthy development of children birth to 5 years by promoting physical activity, healthy eating and reduced small screen time.

Educators in each room of The Discovery House have training on the principals and practices of Munch & Move.

Your child will learn:

  • Fundamental movement skills: these are the building blocks of movement. They are a specific set of gross motor movements that involve different body parts such as the feet, legs, trunk, hands, arms and head, and are essential for children's participation in sport and physical activity throughout life.
  • The basics of nutrition: The difference between healthy everyday food and 'sometimes' foods and how different foods effect our bodies. Based on the Australian Dietary Guidelines.
  • The importance of water and hydration.
  • The importance of being active and limiting screen time.

Through this program your child will become responsible for looking after their health and we are hopeful will be able to make healthy choices once they leave Early Childhood education.

Information on Munch & Move can be found in a variety of languages here.
